چکیده
Thraatchathi Chooranam (TC), is a polyphenol-rich Indian traditional medicine. Present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of TC against H2O2 induced oxidative stress and apoptotic damage in H9C2 cardiomyocytes. Cell viability assay indicated relative safety (IC50= 488.10±12.04 mg/ml) of TC. Pretreatment of cells with TC upregulated antiapoptotic Bcl2, and anti-oxidants TRX1 and TRXR and downregulated Bax and HIF-α and inflammatory genes iNOS and TNF-α. Together, these findings show that TC has both anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic properties. Further studies may be considered to identify the bioactive principle(s) and precise mechanisms of action of TC. 2. INTRODUCTION

Portulaca oleracea protects H9c2 cardiomyocytes against doxorubicin-induced toxicity via regulation of oxidative stress and apoptosis
Abstract Background and Objectives: Doxorubicin as an effective chemotherapeutic agent is frequently used in various cancers. Nowadays, the application of doxorubicin is limited due to its cardiotoxic effects. The important mechanism which is involved in the cardiac injury of doxorubicin is the generation of reactive oxygen species; therefore antioxidant compounds may reduce cardiotoxicity. ...
متن کاملAleglitazar, a dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α and -γ agonist, protects cardiomyocytes against the adverse effects of hyperglycaemia
PURPOSE To assess the effects of Aleglitazar on hyperglycaemia-induced apoptosis. METHODS We incubated human cardiomyocytes, cardiomyocytes from cardiac-specific peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ knockout or wild-type mice in normoglycaemic or hyperglycaemic conditions (glucose 25 mM). Cells were treated with different concentrations of Aleglitazar for 48 h. We measured viability, ...
متن کاملSalubrinal protects against tunicamycin and hypoxia induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis via the PERK-eIF2α signaling pathway
OBJECTIVES This study examined the protective effect of salubrinal and the mechanism underlying this protection against tunicamycin (TM)- and hypoxia-induced apoptosis in rat cardiomyocytes. METHODS Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were cultured from the ventricles of 1-day-old Wistar rats. Cells were exposed to different concentrations of salubrinal (10, 20, and 40 µmol/L) for 30 min followed by ...
متن کاملMg2+ protects adult beating cardiomyocytes against ischaemia.
Although Mg2+ reduces infarct size in whole heart models of ischaemia/reperfusion, the cardioprotective effect of Mg2+ at the cellular level is still a controversial issue. Therefore, we tested whether Mg2+ protects cardiomyocytes against ischaemia. To accomplish this aim we used an experimental model of ischaemia that utilises single beating adult cardiomyocytes in which oxygen tension is tigh...
متن کامل1, 25 Dihydroxyvitamin D3 Protects the Heart Against Pressure Overload-induced Hypertrophy without Affecting SIRT1 mRNA Level
Background and Aims: There has been scant information concerning antihypertrophic effects of vitamin D specifically on its cellular and molecular mechanisms. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is regarded as a key deacetylase enzyme in cardiomyocytes which applies potential cardioprotective effects by functional regulation of different proteins. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin...
